Home Emergency and Disaster Preparedness

As the aftermath of the events of hurricane Katrina unfolded, once thing became strikingly clear. TOO FEW WERE PREPARED FOR A DISASTER. To paraphrase Rex Obsorn, Manteca California Police Department Public Relations Officer: Do NOT count on the Police Department, Fire Department, or utilities for the first 72 hours after a disaster. YOU must be prepared in order to survive during those initial 72 hours.

Course material is taken from the American Red Cross, Manteca N.E.R.T. (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team) program and other sources to teach your employees:

  • What supplies do I need?
  • In what quantities? How much per person per day?
  • What is the shelf life for supplies? How often do I need to replenish them?
  • What are my sources for fresh water if the government supplied piping runs dry?
  • How do I make water safe to drink?
  • What do I need to communicate with the outside world?
  • What documents should I have copies of in my emergency kit?
  • What health and 1st aid supplies do I need?

Participants will receive a check list of the supplies and documents they should have available.
